Welcome visitor. When you read this post in May 2007, you might have noticed the drastic change in look and feel of Lao Planet. What gives?
Murphy’s law made overtime. It started out with some minor server issues at our hosting company. On May 23nd we received the following message:

“Your server has experienced a rather severe RAID / Hard drive malfunction and will need to be restored from available backup data. A new OS is being prepared at this point in time and we will begin a restore from backup when the initial preparations have been completed.”
Hmm, okay, that is unfortunate and we are down. But our hoster prouds itself on its extensive backup facilities. All will be well..at least..that is what we thought until we got the next message from our technician:
“Unfortunately during the restore we noticed that the backups for the server were all corrupt and unusable…”
Holy Moo! The situation rapidly evolved in a complete meltdown of our server including all its backups and local backups that were still on the server. Gone were all posts, pictures and software configurations on multiple sites. There were backups we made ourselves, much older backups, but Lao Planet was not one of them.
So what to do? Quit, reanimate an empty forum, or perhaps try something completely new? The decision was made. We re-launch Lao Planet as a blog about Laos and Lao people all over the world. A fresh start in good spirit.
We sincerely apologize to our forum contributors for the loss of all your valuable posts. A great loss. We think we can offer you new inspiration through this blog and keep you entertained. Please bear with us. We enjoy your company and promise to backup everyday

Hi Darly, sorry to hear that it can’t be savaged, such a great lost in deed. I think it would be a great idea to have active members to be able to blog as well (you make the call as to who could), let me know what you think, I’d love to be able to blog at LP, think of it as an online media for Laotian bloggers.
I’m submitting my application as a new LP blogger; do I need to send in my current photo, education, experiences and references?
Hi there Nye,
It’s okay. We must move on and be productive.
I was at your site saying the same thing. I thought I bet Nye would be the first to make comment and just checked my email and saw your comment.
All you or anyone need to do is to register to be an active member of the site, whether an author or a contributor, or a subscriber.
I don’t care if you are male or female or what you look like and how much you make, hehehe. All I care is that you have something to say or like you stated, “having the desire to voice out” or something like that along the line.
‘Our Voice Must Be Heard”, good because I was a bit worry since people are beginning to wonder what I look like, or if I’m just a small dog with big bark (or all bark but no bite), in case you’re wondering, Darly is just a tad prettier than me,
Yes, you are so right about that Nye. Now as an author, you can post all you want. It’s a good thing that you are so familiar with using the same blogging tool. It’s like fate or something.
I think some people might think we are sisters. We’re both so outspoken, hehehe.
Aha! a New Lao Planet.!
Just when I was getting used to the old one…
It is going to take time to rebuild the sites.
No time better than now to get stuck in…
Strange that this server crash news wasn’t on the May 25 calendar link on the left. This new structure of blog navigation (also criss-crossing many other blogs) is pretty unusual but interesting. I wonder how fast can an 11 year old will pick this up…
I didn’t realize that in order to see this post I have to click previous post.
Anyway, it is unusual for someone to say that their backups for the server were all corrupt and unusable. Hmmm..I am curious what can corrupt the backups. I suspect the maintenance guy is corrupt and he’d never backed it up.
Happy fresh-start for a new great year of the “prosperous pig.”
It was on page 2 Sim

This is how blog works. Latest posts are on the front page as an option.
I think an 11 years old kid will have no problem picking this up. I read somewhere that kids these days learn things differently than you and I at their age. They don’t follow a straight line and don’t surf the way we did in the 90’s.
My thought is the same as yours about back up servers were all corrupted. Last month the main server went down I think. So it made me think. But I don’t want to think about the negative and would like to put my energy on being productive.
If we spend too much time on looking back, then we might forget to look forward and move on. We are back and doing a great job I think with the posting, just like we were.
Say hi to Salat for me.
I was really surprised to learn about what happened to the old LP. I have fond memories of the old format, but change can be good. And I think things will be just as good, if not better then before.
Sabaidee Salat,
Sim must have told you about what became of LP. I do miss the old site a great deal but not too many people realize that we went through so many phases.
Even the last version of the site were parts and parts of the former version that we were able to kept intact. Our board for example went through like 5 phases. I didn’t count anymore after three.
You are a registered author now so you can post, only if you want to that is.
