Planet Earth - BBC

The nature series, Planet Earth took five years to make. It was co-produced by the Discovery Channel, Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), and with the CBC.

For those who missed it, you can now get the series on DVD. Available at such places as Amazon.com, Target, and Costco.

The filming and selection of wildlife is really beautiful. I especially enjoyed watching the desert scene in Chile, loved how the fog rolled in amongst the animals. This DVD version is narrated by David Attenborough, which I prefer over the US broadcast narrated by an American actress. It’s recommended for those with HDTV as the difference is in the details. So enjoy!

  1. Hi Salat, I kept ‘clicking’ at the photo hoping to get to
see the preview; I guess I have to buy the real thing.  After visiting the zoo, I think this is
something that I will definitely enjoy; I’ll pick it up the next time I’m in
    Target. Thanks. :)

Somehow, some Indian guy uploaded 155 Planet earth 4 minutes clips each. View list here http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=antoniooo9
The resolution of the DVD is amazing coming from a Panasonic HD digital camera. Some of these cameras run over $50-60K. Watching them on a standard resolution TV tube is awful since you’ve lost a lot of the resolutions.
Watching them on a (correction, “23″) LCD PC screen is much better than the TV tube. It feels like you’re at location. Planet earth is going to make you want to get HD LCD TV.
Here is a good one I used to watch. Enya http://www.youtube.com/v/kqcrpbmt_ho

  4. Great. Now I can have my own DVD of this cool show. I'm going to send it to Laos so my Grand-Mama and all my relatives can watch it. I'm sure they will appreciate the beauty of the world they are living in.

  6. Darly, our uncle from Laos love the Penguins. You might have a great idea. If they see the potential beauty of our natural world they’ll be more incline to not overfish, litter or pollute.

Ginger, I rented those DVD from the library at no cost. Out of topic, but, that is also where I got a season of 24. I recommend season 4. The other seasons was just bad, improbable, predicatable writing with nearly 75-85% of the staff behind the scene are men - not a fair world. And too much violence and ethics violations.

  7. Thanks Sim, I'll find out if they have it at my local library.
