Summertime Treats
What would you consider a summertime treat? For me it’s the amount of fresh fruits and veggies found at the farmer’s market. First signs of the coming fruit season begin with cherries. This is when I usually eat them for days on end until I can’t eat anymore. This year we were able to get our hands on fresh organic dark red cherries. Notice they don’t like as plump as those from the super market, but they do taste great!

Another spring time veggie I can’t get enough of lately is artichokes. You can steam, boil, or roast them. Some like to dip them in ranch dressing. I prefer them steam and season with a bit of lime juice. They are fun to eat and a bit tricky. Be sure to snip off the sharp stuff on the tip of the leaves. And the best part is when you get the to the “heart” of the artichoke. It has a unique rich taste and really worth the wait. So if you ever come across these strange looking artichokes at the market, give them a try and see for yourself.
From the Artichoke Advisory Board: “Most people cook the whole artichoke, and slip each leaf petal, one by one, through their teeth until they reach the delectable heart. Children love them because the get to eat artichokes with their fingers!”

Farmer's market has the best cherries and strawberries. I like the Kansas City farmer's market where you can buy a box of cherries for a dollar. My siblings love those dark cherries as much as I do and if I don't pay attention, they will eat a whole box before I get a chance to.
My mother would always give the youngest one in the family a whole box, the rest we have to share.
I like strawberry and pretty much most fruits and veggies. We eat more asparagus than artichoke. My siblings like to have artichoke with melted cheese.
Hi Salat, it's fun trying to guess whose posting before actually seeing the author's name, so far I'm 95 % accurate, but 100% accurate on your posting.
I've never tried the artichokes, somewhat afraid to. Can you dip it in the Jail (spicy sauce)?
I bet you know which posts belong to me, lol. I'm so predictable at times.
Yes, except for one when Padek posted clip of the coupe, it surprised me that it's not you…our media girl, but then the topic suits him well.
You know we all have our preferences on various topics. He's padek and has his own style of posting.
I like happy cows clips, lol.
Ginger, I'm sure you can dip these artichoke leaves in anything, just experiment and see if you like it.
Darly, how big is this $1 box of cherries in Kansas? As big as a shoebox? I'm just curious. Cherries usually go for $3-5 per pound in California, unless you go out to the cherry farm and can get it a bit cheaper.
