LCTV Som Moo. Is it Lao, Viet or Salami?
(Not content with our first piece of blantant publicity.
)
Som Moo is the recipe that we get asked most for, so in good old LC fashion, we upped a Video, sharing our version of this wonderful snack/dish.
Hopefully, you will find the video easy to follow and recognise someone special at the beginning and end of the presenation
One regular LC visitor has asked “Is som moo Lao or is this one of those dishes adopted from the Vietnamese (Nem Chua)?”
This question has been debated within the team, but we cant seem to get to an answer (the best was Khamsene´s “Since I was born, I have always eaten Lao Som Moo, so it must be Lao”)

So is it Lao, Viet or a copy of Salami with loads of Garlic and Chillies?

Hi Chief Vienne, thanks for sharing the making process of som moo. If I’ve to guess, I think it’s from Vietnamese because some people called it Nem, but I think the Lao modify it into more than just som moo, we also have som pa. I personally think that it’s another way to preserve meat back in the olden day since we can’t freeze or refrigerator it like we’d today, by making into som moo, it can stay at room temperature a lot longer.
Salami e italiano, what the matter with lao or viet ?
