Joma Bakery Cafe

During my stay in Vientiane, I went to Joma Bakery Cafe one afternoon during a visit to the National Library of Laos. I found out about this hot spot for tourists from my aunt.

I also saw an ad in the Lao Airline in flight magazine and decided to give the place a try. I ordered a glass of ice mocha and chocolate muffin.

The total for the bill was $2.58. Ice mocha was 17,000 kips and chocolate muffin was 8,000 kips. My cousins in the US said that was expensive and I should have just stick to a coffee stand at an intersection near my aunt’s house.

It was probably expensive for the local standard. But the location is very nice. It is only a few meters from Nam Phou fountain. From where I was sitting I could see the Green Discovery Tour office across the street.

The next time I am in Vientiane, I will visit the Scandinavian Bakery shop.

    Darly,

I am totally agreed with your friend. at a price of $2 dollars a cup, it is indeed expensive for regular people.

but it looks like they ‘re not targeted at laotian anyway, since the place is located just nearby to the tour agent.

for me, i’ll save my $2 bucks for something tasteir like..beers laos. blurp ;)

i’m the devil, please dont listen to me.

Sometimes it’s not the coffee that you’re paying for, it’s the atmosphere and the view, I think it’s worth it for the memory that you’re having, and look, you even got a post out of it to share it with all of us, for that price,…it’s worth it. I wish I was there with you. :)

  6. Hi Nye,

You are right about that. If nothing else it is good for the Lao economy.
