Jonny Olsen - Meng Tub Tao

by Darly

In “Pong Lang Sa On Concert at Wat Lao Buddhavong of Washington DC July 2007“, Ginger states, “There was an American singer, John who sang Mor Lum and can speak Thai/Lao fluently; very impressive because some Laotian that grew up in the US can’t even speak as fluently as he can”. The person she was talking about is no other than Jonny Olsen. Here is a sample of his music. Happy Friday. :)

  1. Hey Darly, he even sang this song for us, that's pretty cool for an American guy.  :)

  2. (formerly Chanthaphasouk)

I met him in person! He was performing at the 2007 Songkran Festival in Thaitown, LA. I went up to him and started speaking Lao, but then he kept asking "Poot ang-krit dai mai?" (thinking I was Thai even though I was speaking Lao) so we ended up speaking English. Apparently he's a native of Los Angeles and the only "farang" to win a khaen playing championship. Very nice, down to earth guy, who has a great passion for morlum. When he gets excited playing the khaen he starts doing pelvic thrusts, which I think is soooo hilarious.

I personally like his song, "Arai Gor Nit Noi." =]
