From Dream To Reality

I’m not an expert in dreams, whether it’s dreaming at night or just daydreaming, but I still want to talk about it. I’m like most people, I’ve had dreams, but dare not say that I’m a dreamer. I think dreams is a necessity, and not a luxury part of life, everyone can dream and the best part about it is that it’s free. Some people would say that we need dreams as much as we need food or oxygen, this I do agree, it’s the driven factor for most of us, and it’s one of the key factors to most success.

When I was little, I used to dream of becoming an adult, there’s so much that I wanted to do, but once I’m here, I wish I was a kid again. Sometimes reaching that dream is not as exciting as dreaming about it, might be because I didn’t know back then that adults have to pay bills, have responsibility, and have to work so much and no time for play. But nevertheless, we still need dreams. If we have no dreams, then the journey has no destination, and someday we might run out of energy because we don’t know which direction to go. As for me, I know I want to get there, just to see what my dreams look like, at least I want to get there before I die.

Some say that dreams is a strange thing, once we get there, it’s no longer there, might be because our dream becomes reality and for most of us, the face of reality is not as pretty as the face of dream. I like to listen to people’s dreams, especially when they’re telling about it, you literally could see the sparkles in their eyes, hear the passion in their voices, it’s a lot of fun just to talk about it, it gives life a little bit more meaning.

If talking about dreams can bring us this much joy, then we should find time to dream, but as for me, I like to dream about things that are attainable, as I work toward them, then it becomes closer to reality, it’s a good way to stay focused. Some might say, I’m too busy to sit around and dream, but in reality, you don’t need that much time to dream, if you work toward your dream each day, even if it’s not that much time spent, I believe that you’ll eventually get there.

We should always find time for the things that we love, and I’m hoping that this will happen, that “Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living.” Anais Nin. I hope that most of you have dreams, I would love to hear about your dreams but sometimes it’s best to keep it as a secrete, might be because it’s a joy that we don’t want to share.

  1. I'm thinking of that song "to dream the impossible dream" which I can't recall the rest of the verses. I have to admit that I am a dreamer at night and in day time. My dram is nothing like being rich or famous, or anything like that. But growing up in the US I had a dream of finishing high school and then to attend a good university and graduate as one of the top students. I didn't know how I was going to afford a private school but I told myself if I wanted bad enough and not give up on my dream of holding that certificate in my hands then I could get it.

While attending the undergrad study, I had a dream of studying abroad. I was not able to afford studying in Thailand my junior and senior years but I told myself that after graduation I should try to follow my dream so I don't regret it. I don't want to have a family with kids and then keep feeling sorry for myself for not studying outside the US. I told myself there is more to life than Kansas.

I also had a dream of going back to Laos for as long as I could remember. I wanted to visit my old house, this is still a dream for me. I have been back to Laos as you all know but there are still unfinished busineses I have to take care of.

Another dream of mine that I had was to create a website for the Lao online community. I didn't have the time and resources to do that when I was studying for my BA. Now we know that dream has become a reality.

I have so much more dreams that I want to make come true. We'll see how that will turn out. :)

I guess you can say that my dreams are practical ones. You can live day to day and be tam ma da or aim at something. Dreams are like anchors for us to aim for and come on shore.

  2. I’m thinking that you’re referring to this song.

    Youtube: The Impossible Dream

    To dream the impossible dream
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

    To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afat
To try when your arms are too weary
    To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
    To fight for the right
    Without question or pause
    To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause  And I know if I'll only be true
    To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable star
    The fight the unbeatable foe
    To dream the impossible dream

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable star
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To dream the impossible dream

  3. Thanks! That is the song I was talking about. We sang it at summer camp in high school, plus few other songs. Yeah, I went to camps that might not be so fun for others and sing songs like this.
