Water Taxi

The airport in Pakse is being expanded at the moment. New roads will be created to go around the airport for the villages that have given up homes and rice farms for the new airport. Ban Houayrao for example will need a road near the Mekong River since the main road will be in the middle of the airport. I was thinking why can’t we make use of the Mekong River like we used to do in the old days more.
It would be a good idea to have a water tax in addition to using the main roads. It’s great to have a bridge now but that shouldn’t be the only way to cross the Mekong or make use of the river for villages on both sides. Soon, Jumbo or Tuk Tuk will be banned. Maybe those Jumbo drivers can become water taxi drivers and a tourists can use this service in addition to land transportation. Then you can develop both sides of the river with restaurants, guest houses, and even boat hotels. Don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud here.

So if you want to catch one you jump in the water and yell "Taxi!"?
The problem with water Taxi, you can only go up and down the river.
I saw a video of a guy driving around Viengchan on Youtube. There are so many motorcycles and cars too. I see motorcycle sneaking in and out of traffic.
They really need more traffic cops and stricter test at the DMV.
Padek: You can have pick up spots just like they did with the bak. Well, at least the area where there is no other way of travel except for by water is making use of the river.
Dallas: Traffic is crazy in Vientiane. I saw a dead girl only a meter away from me on my second night in Vientiane. She was hit while crossing the street and no one was willing to take her to a hospital. Then a few minutes a way from the spot there were blood stains at an intersection from the accident earlier.
Crazy drivers in Vientiane and all over Laos. No helmets for some of these people and they take so much risks. It’s like this attitude of "okay if I die then I die" kind of driving style.
My cousins (the teenage guys) don’t even have mirrors on their mo-peds. They cut them off coz they want to look cool. I asked them about getting fines and they said "out here in Champassack province, the police are not as strict like in Vientiane" and I was like okay let’s hope I don’t die when I go somewhere with them.
In Champassack province, there are some villages that don’t have driving test or anything. Middle school and high school kids that can afford a mo-ped can just take one to school.
I kind of like the Buk, I can’t believe that they’d get rid of that, if I was in Laos, I’d revamp it and make it into a tourist water way of some sort, I like Darly’s idea of water taxi. As for Padek, sounds like we just need to get you a water buffalo, it can definitely take you across the river, be careful not to ride too close to the front (horn), or back (tail), since you’re going to get wet anyway, might as well getting wet the old fashion way.
