Lai Fai Din at Ban Phonsikhay

For the villagers at Ban Phonsikhay, the high light of Boun Hor Khao Padapdin is the Lai Fai Din ceremony. A Tai Viengchanh like me have never heard of such thing. My cousin Mo explained to me how Tai Pakse have held Lai Fai ceremony for many generations. For those temples that are located next to the river, there would be a Lai Fai Narm ceremony instead. This part of the festival is like a closing ceremony after the spirits have been invited to dine on the food offered at the temple.

I don’t quite understand the concept of Lai Fai Din or Lai Fai Narm. To me the ceremony resembles the Lai Huer Fai during the Boat Racing Festival. Maybe those Tai Pakse out there can shed a light on this topic.

  1. The beautiful Laotian tradition and custom such as this one is blurry.  I can only imagine read and learn from the story more about all the Laotians traditions.   Kob jai Laovoice for the post.  I am sure there is an expert who can shed some light on this one.

  2. Hi Darly, this is very new for this Tai Pakse as well; I have never heard or seen this before, a very unique tradition indeed.  I would have loved to be there and see the event in person.
