Dao Heuang Living Community

During my visit to Laos in January and February of this year, I saw a big construction site across the street from Dao Heuang Market in Pakse. I was not able to figure out what they were building and forgot to ask one of my relatives. I asked my cousin about the construction last month and he told me it is a living community. It is an apartment complex with a price tag in dollars amount. I asked Mo for a price range and whether or not if it’s in the 30’s or 40’s K and he said that it’s much more than that. The area that the apartments are located is the business hub for Pakse and on the bank of the Mekong River with only few meters away from Pakse bridge.

If you are thinking about retiring in Laos and living in Pakse for those southerners, perhaps this is a good time to reserve an apartment for you. I wonder if my mother will not mind living at a place like this. She loves her life in the US and doesn’t want to take her early retirement in Pakse. My father is trying his best to convince her. I wouldn’t mind living and working in Pakse if I can go home to this place.

  1. Hey Darly, nice post.

If I move to Pakse or have a second home, it wouldn’t be in the city. My Grandfather have a land for us. If I move there, I would built myself a traditional home with some modern twist.

That new condo will own my foreigners with deep pocket or minority super rich Lao. Vast majority can only dream of owning or stepping into a place like this.

How is Laos going to grow when there is no middle class? Is there middle class in Lao?

  2. Save up for the timber. It’s more expensive to have a wooden floor in Laos these days.

There is a middle class in Laos and they are slowly growing. If you look at Pakse, the middle class are the small-business people with relatives in the US fueling the money for them to have their own business.
