It’s All In The Works

I can truly say that I’m happy to see that BBM books have made their way to the National Library of Laos, as for me making the post about them was only to inform our readers as to who they are, but I think some of my readers, one in particular is so clouded with his judgment, and had the need to send me this nasty email, which part of it read,

“I think it should be great fun for you and your homophobic and racist (against falang who, unlike many Lao, walk the talk in regard to helping the Lao in Lao) clique to look at all the new pictures of Aai Nu Noi and speculate which ones really show his true gayness.”

All I can say is that my post must have stepped on his toes, might be the new road that he is paving for himself in doing business in Laos, creating good will for himself by using Lao Children and Lao Theme because he had burned too many bridges in the past, as Darly once said, “Sadly, there are many bridges for him to burn in Laos.” I’m thinking that at the end, his true colors will show.

As for my other HATE fans, don’t think for once that I don’t know who you are. I’m a bit tired of your threats and childish behaviors by calling our reader’s name, if you’re going to do it, at least get your fact straight, next time we might have a new category called “the hall of shame.”

With all said and done, I’m happy that we’re able to support the National Library of Laos and I trust in their decisions as to the types of books that they choose for our Book Boxes.

  2. I love Laos. If I raised a concern about something and had labled me as phobe, then I guess that a matter of opinion. Everyone have their own belive and I have my own believe.

  3. Don’t let this person get to you Ginger and Dallas. Some people like to think they are better than others and without taking the time to find out about other people this person thinks he is the judge and jury for those Laotians that he thinks is not "doing the walk while doing the talk."

I think most of us are silent heroes and we often choose our own path or create our own path to walk along at our own pace rather than jumping on the next bandwagon that some might flaunt as the next best thing.

Please keep in mind that we might not walk the same path but the final destination is the same and that is the best for Khon Lao. As you can see the route that we took to promote literacy in Laos is not the same route that this person took but we are using/sharing the same resources as in the case of the books that we bought for the book boxes also included books from the Big Brother Mouse themselves.

Why is that when someone asked question that person is considered the enemy and being called by not so nice name? There are many ways to help the people of Laos and it should not be "one way and the only way" and no alternatives.

  4. Dallas, it has nothing to do with your comment, it’s more personal I think.  I believe that I might appear too naïve and people think that they can use me for their personal gain, and when they see that I won’t let them use me anymore, then I became a threat to them, enemy one may call it.  Some even called me that I’m not ‘Lao help Lao’ but that’s ‘To Each His Own’, I have a clear mission of what I have to do.  I could be a threat to them, that’s the choice that I have not yet decide.

  5. Darly, I think if the mission is the same, then there wouldn’t be any problem because at the end, it’s to help Lao literacy.  Obviously in this case, the mission is not the same, but it is a conflict of interest, when it comes to personal interest and personal gain, people become selfish IMO.  I hate corruption.

  6. I counted 36 words relating to the word "gay" on that page alone. He must assume it was an attack on him or the gay community. The reaction from people’s comments are practically normal to a post with twenty occurance of the word gay…People who believe that the world doesn’t like them because of their identity is bringing the belief, which is untrue, into reality and into their life… Hey, look at the bright side. The many types of drives out their allow us more to choose from - which actually decreases curruption.

  7. Sim, when I wrote the post about BBM and the founder that he’s gay, then I got attacked for posting the fact of the situation, but when he gave an interview and write-up to pimp himself of who he is, you can read the article here, then it’s okay. It makes me wonder if the person that sent me that nasty email visited him in Laos (that is where he is right now) and informed him that there’s no use in misleading Lao people because the information is out there.

It is hard to hide what you did in the past, there is no secrete in this world, eventually it will come out, someone will see to it.

  8. Correct me if I am wrong please but the date of the article is 12/6/2007, that is December right? Over here we go by date first before month.

Interesting part about the article is what Nye brought up the part in her previous post about the non-profit status of Big Brother Mouse and who was really behind with all the funding. Now it is confirmed as you can see in the article.

"In explaining Big Brother Mouse’s publishing model, Alyson pointed out that Laos doesn’t have the same profit-nonprofit classifications as the U.S. “The best way to set up the program was as a business, with a local Lao owner, but recognizing that while we hope it will one day function as a business, in a country where the average annual income is about $400 USD, while the cost of printing books is not much less than elsewhere, it will be some years before that happens.” So for now, publishing and literacy are all part of the same effort. Alyson and his colleagues ask people to sponsor book parties and mini-libraries in villages across Laos. At the book parties, Big Brother Mouse staffers (usually aged 19 to 22) visit a village and discuss books with anywhere from 80 to 200 local children. They engage them in creative writing activities and give each child a book to bring home, which may eventually make its way into the village’s small library. "

Your post must have been powerful enough Nye for BBM to have a makeover of their website with new pictures and more info. That is the power of your voice.

  9. Darly, the article was dated December 6, 2007, example of the current article for PW is here, dated 12/14/2007. I also believe that what we talked about here drove them to update their website, as the beginning of the email that I received on October 27, 2007 read,

“I just thought I would let you know that Sasha has update the BBM site, with
much more information about the books they’ve published.”

The last part of the email was a pure insult to me personally, which I will not post it here.

I think our voice does matter, otherwise this person wouldn’t feel that I’m a threat to him and had the need to send his deviant message to me. As for this person that sent me the email, I believe that if you have nothing to hide, then there is no need to do anything, but people that are guilty managed to find a way to point the finger to themselves, as Lao people called it, ‘gen poun horn tong’, as the English story of the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.

It all started out that this person asked me and/or Darly (which I’m sure that Darly didn’t know this part) to sponsor a book that costs around $1000, which I turned down because we’re committed to helping with building school, and also supporter of the National Library of Laos. If I agreed to do everything that was asked of me, then everything would be A Okay and that goes with the other Lao individual (Hate Fans) as well. I’m here to voice my opinion, and not here to serve or become a servant to these individuals, maybe they have forgotten that this is America that we’re living in, it is not the society where men dominate over women like in Laos, if over your woman fine, but just not me. I reserve my right to write as I wish, I think I’m ethical enough to know what is appropriate to write and what is not, my parents taught me well.
