Anonymous as in AnonyMOUSE

mouse03-by-alaskabody-dolls.jpgIt’s rare to find reliable news coming from Laos, if we do hear then it’s only half the news, the good news that is. For most of us, it’s even worse that we only understood half in what we read, instead of trying to understand the situation, we become so enraged and have the itch to put our two cents worth and not fully understand the real issues of discussion. In the virtual world, we can be anyone we want, for most of us we choose to remain anonymous but keep in mind that you’re not as anonymous as you think.

As anonymous commenter, some might feel that they can say anything that they want because it’s a virtual world…it has no bearing(s) on feelings. Right? Actually, it’s not all true. When you’re replying to a comment of certain individual, you are indirectly talking to other readers as well. It’s very upsetting for some readers to be in the crossfire of War of Words, when they only come to visit mainly for entertaining. We welcome constructive criticism, not insult.

Some might say, ‘this is a free country, we have the freedom of speech,’ yes indeed, but please try to be civil about it. As an anonyMouse myself, my guideline in writing and commenting is that I’ve the freedom to voice my opinion as long as I’m not ashamed to put my real name and face next to it. We have a very small Lao online community, and we are guests at Laovoices.com, this holds true for me as well, I’m a guest author at Darly’s site and I think we have to respect the owner, and if you have the need and itch to insult someone, please go somewhere else.

I feel sad that some have the need to insult others, but partly might be a misunderstanding because we only understood half of what we read, take your time because this is a FREE online site, we are not charging you by the minutes…and thanks for your visit.

I hear your message, some of us are still learning. :( Point well said.

I would agree. I, myself, do try to give the option for those that know me should already have. It would be wrong if I hadn’t. It is impossible to be anonymous and at the same time let others know who we are without sending an email.

  3. What is the root of many of the problems we see today? Simple. It’s misunderstanding. How? One person interprets something one way and another interprets it a different way.

Recently, I posted some comments on the Lao Voices site that were seen as insulting. At the time, I thought I was doing the right thing. I expressed a point of view while trying to support someone’s opinion. What I wrote, although sincere, was born of misunderstanding. I now realize my comments were insulting.

I would like to apologize to Padek, Darly and Ginger for any rude comments I made earlier. I would also like to apologize to the readers of Lao Voices, many of whom are respected members of the Laotian community. We all have much in common. We all have opinions, but we shouldn’t let our differences divide us. The achievements of those associated with Lao Voices and other forums are exemplary. The School Building Project and Book Box Fund are testimonials to the efforts of those concerned for the well-being of Lao people in the United States and abroad.

I understand that opinions are important. But criticism must be constructive and respectful. It is important for one to admit when he is wrong. Tolerance provides a great conduit for healing and communication. As a member of the Lao community, I offer my dedication and support to your causes.

  4.  Camus, thanks for the apology.  I often read and try to understand the writing style of the author before making any comment and by doing this I won’t miss any hot issues being discussed as well.  I thank you for your support, and sorry that I might seem mean but the issue has to be addressed and I hope that you will understand…it’s time to move forward.
