Life on the papaya garden
For those of my relatives that are farmers, they also work on the garden during the dry season. During the planting season the able working bodies will be at the rice paddies and then during the dry season they would be busy at the garden or suan in Lao language. As you can see from the photos below, life is pretty simple on the papaya garden. You just need a place to sleep and eat.
Just raise some cows and some goats in the open space and you’ll have plenty of meat to feed you through out the year.

I’m sure you saw the picture of one big green papaya that they chose for lunch that day at Saolao.net. Aunt Kian told me how they were making Sao Noi Disco and she was too afraid to eat the raw version so she ate the cooked one with the kids.
