Happy Good Friday

Darly always says, ‘Have a happy (good) Friday’, well today is the official ‘Good Friday’ and it is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of Jesus Christ. It also means no work for many of us.

Even though I made it known to everyone at work that I’m a Buddhist, but I’ve been invited to an Easter play, and this one is called, ‘Experience the passion of the life of Christ through a contemporary theatrical presentation,’ performed by one of the local churches at a middle school. If I have a chance to take some photos, I’ll post it here this weekend.

The celebration of Good Friday is ancient, and some of the practices associated with Good Friday are attested to by Egeria in the 4th century. The day gradually became a time of penance and fasting as the anniversary of the death of Christ. The name “Good Friday” possibly comes from “God’s Friday,” although the exact reason for the current name is unclear.

Time has changed, I live in the Southern part of the United States, and it’s known as one of the church states, and instead of fasting (Edited: I spoke to some people last night, many are still observing and restricted in what they could eat,) it’s more like feasting and I’ve seen some churches have potluck lunch or dinner where people would bring in food.

Let me say this before Darly, have a Good Friday everyone, and for some, enjoy your day off. :)

The play was very emotional, but this was all the photos that I got before I ran out of battery, I regretted that I didn’t have an extra battery pack with me, but the next time I will be more prepared.
