More photos from the Lao Food Festival 2008 in Vientiane last month. The first dish is soup phak from the northern region of Laos followed by another dish with a fancy name but to most of us would know it as soup nor mai som. The third dish is the famous Luang Prabang sausage that shouldn’t be miss by any visitor to Laos. The fourth dish is something that I used to make with my mother using banana trees in our yard in Vientiane. It is called som yuak kluay made by pickling the center of a banana tree. As a little kid I found this type of som or dong phak to be the most delicious. I will definitely look for som yuak kluay the next time I am in Laos.
