My uncle was in Pakse earlier this month and took some photos of Dao Heung Living Community for us. These photos were taken on May 04, 2008.

  1. This is looking a lot nicer than some of the housing here in the US, but I can’t help to feel that it’s turning into a city living, If I was living in Laos, I’d prefer to live in the countryside than living in the city. Would this type of town home be considered the working class or upper class community?

  2. Ginger,
I would rather live in the countryside too. ;)
Did Darly said this style of home goes for nice 100k?
You got to be a rich Lao person to own or afford that. I would expect something like this in Vientiane but not Pakse.

  3. Hi Ginger and Dallas,

I read in the Vientiane Times newspaper about these apartments awhile back and it was the goal of the local government to provide affordable housing for Pakse residents. According to the newspaper the apartment is listed for 100 millions Kip and that’s less than 10,000 Euros. They have a payment plan for those that can’t afford to pay full payment and also an option to re-sell the apartment back for those that can’t afford to continue living there. If I remember correctly, there should be a little over 400 apartment units available.

Too bad I am a poor student or else I would buy one facing the Mekong River. :)
