SanJiang Shopping Mall in Vientiane

SanJiang Shopping Mall is located in Oumoung (Neua) village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane. According to the Vientiane Times Newspaper, the mall is the “gathering point for the Chinese merchants” and most of the products are imported from China. The stalls are mostly run by Chinese merchants with some Lao merchants selling Lao clothes and textiles and handicrafts. The price tag for the mall was about $6 million and it has a spacious parking lot for 800 cars and 5,000 motorbikes. Since the mall is in a great location, many people in the area would walk to the mall to shop and hangout after work.

  1. There are malls like this in California where there are large numbers of Chinese population.  It’s like a one stop shopping for them. 

    I wonder if the mall has air conditioning inside.  There is parking lot for 800 cars and 5,000 motorbikes, but where are all the shoppers?  It looks so empty.  The only person I see is the guy in the red shirt hanging out at the lady’s shoe shop.  But I do like the silk skirts on the mannequins.

  2. Hi Salat,

    If I remember correctly, the mall has an air conditioning, just like the new Talat Sao or Morning Market shopping center. Aunt Kian took the photos early in the morning around 9:00 AM on a work day so most people were probably busy working. I will ask her to go back and take more pictures when I call her later this week.

    Later this week we should get photos from Tat Luang marsh before they put up China Town there.
