Wat Phu Festival 2008, part 1

On the last day of Wat Phu Festival there is a Morning Alms Giving with long lines of Buddhist faithfuls, eager to make merit on this special day. Hundreds of people would travel from all over the country to take part in the festiviy. They would camp out the night before on the holy ground so they will be able to get up before dawn and make preparation for the Morning Alms Giving. Since transportation is not a problem these days many people in Pakse would not sleep over night at Wat Phu but would stay in the comforts of their homes and take an early bus or their own vehicle to Wat Phu early in the morning. My aunts and cousins in Pakse for example left at 4:00 AM with their neighbors to get there on time for the Morning Alms Giving.

  2. So many people. Is there a town or village nearby and how far? Does Wat Phu have a visiting center so all these people can use the restroom?

  4. Wow, I am surprise at the number of people too.  It’s good to see both young and old generation attending the event.
