US Rice Paddy in Late July
It has only been a week since my last post of US Rice Paddy in Mid July and very surprised to see the rice today. I was fortunate to see the owner outside working in his yard, and he said that the rice came out last week (I swear that I didn’t see them, it might be time for me to get my eyes check) and with the weather being as hot as it is, some will be ready for harvest in about 2 weeks. He said that he will be clipping off the mature rice first, and can’t wait to harvest them at the same time because some of the rice will be too old, so the thought of seeing many people harvesting rice paddy like back in Laos sort of vanished, this appears to be a one man show. Since these are sticky rice paddies, I asked if he would make young sticky rice or khao mao, and he said no because it’d be too much work having to smash them in a mortal (Kok).

And the ones that crow every morning, I absolutely love it, music to my ears.

I posted more photos of Dragonfly Hovering Over US Rice Paddy at my blog, the images remind me of my childhood growing up in Thailand.

Below are beautiful photos of rice field in Pakse, Laos posted by Darly last year, and some young sticky rice.
