Lao Americans hurt in CA bus accident
Some days the news is not what we had hoped for.
In a horrific bus accident with an obsolete Greyhound bus, 10 victims died and 38 were injured when the bus overturned near the Northern California town of Williams on Sunday night.
The bus, which had an invalid license plate, was traveling north from Sacramento on Lone Star Road in Colusa County, headed to Colusa Casino Resort. The vehicle drifted off a rural two-lane road before the driver “overcorrected” and swerved back.
It then crashed, and rolled completely over which collapsed the roof, broke out all windows. Several passengers were thrown from or tossed around inside the bus while it rolled. at the end of its deadly roll, the bus was facing the opposite direction and it was on its wheels.
CHP dispatcher Terry Troth said he did not know the extent of the injuries. He said emergency responders were having trouble communicating with the passengers because many spoke Lao.
At least 37 passengers, as well as the driver, were taken to hospitals throughout the region, including Enloe Medical Center, Colusa Regional Medical Center, Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Sutter Roseville Medical Center, UC Davis Medical Center and Woodland Memorial Hospital.
The bus driver who is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs was arrested and is now under investigation.
What supposed to be a entertaining night out to the Casino ended in a true nightmare. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family.
