Vientiane Bus Terminal for Southern Region

Vientiane Bus Station for Southern Region

Vientiane Bus Terminal for Southern Region or Sai Tai is the new main departure point for all southern destinations. This is where you can find services to Tha Khek, Savannakhet, Pakse, Salavan, Sekong and Attapeu. Services available are local bus, express bus, and VIP bus. From here you can also travel to Vietnam but the service is very limited.

Here is a short clip of Vientiane Bus Terminal for Southern Region and some photos for you to see what the place looks like early in the morning. We were buying Khao Jie Pate to have for breakfast. It was a little past 6:00 AM and the bus station was not that busy.

    Hi, Darly.

Is there only one (1) bus station in Vientiane? How much are the ticket to Pakse? Does the bus operate daily?

  2. Hi Dallas,

The main bus station is by Talat Sao and the Norther Bus Station is a few minutes from Ban Akat by Wattay Yai temple. You can catch the VIP bus to Pakse from the Northern Bus Station as well with Chitprasogn Yotninyom Bus Company. This was the one we took from Pakse to Vientiane over night. The price goes up and down from 180,000 Kips to 170,000 Kips for one way trip. There is also a sleeping bus you can take from Pakse to Vientiane and from Vientiane to Pakse. When I left the price was 170,000 Kips for the sleeping bus with a bed because the gas price went down.

I would recommend anyone to take a sleeping bus. We didn’t do that and didn’t reserve the 9999 (license plate) bus and took a regular double deck VIP bus number 5999. When the relatives came up to say good bye to me they took the sleeping bus number 9999 and said it will be the only way they will travel from now on. It’s so comfortable and you sleep all night through forgetting you’re on a bus. They are taking the sleeping bus out of Pakse tonight as well to come to Vientiane tomorrow morning.

I will make a post later about the VIP bus service.
