Carnival and food at That Luang Festival 2008
That Luang Festival won’t be complete without the carnival and the aromatic Lao food. As a little kid this was the best part of Boun That Luang with all the games I could play for a prize, riding the merry-go-round, and eating ping kai, khao larm, and deep fried meat balls. Now as an adult, I don’t care much for the games but still fond of ping kai and khao larm, which doesn’t taste as good as when I was a little kid. I’m not alone in this and many people I spoke with also said the food is not as delicious like in the old days because of the preparation methods and offering less for higher price. Finding a really delicious khao larm or ping kai is like wining a carnival game.
