(KPL) A teacher of Sengsavanh College said that one of the ways of developing education in Laos so that academic standards are on par with the world is to collaborate with overseas colleges.

Sengsavanh College signs MOU with Vietnamese university
Sengsavanh, a private college, had been using curriculums from other countries in its teaching modules in order to expose local students to the international educational system.
Last Friday, it signed a bilateral cooperative agreement on education with Hung Vuong University of Vietnam. Education Minister, Mr Somkot Mangnormek, Mr Khamsen Sisavong, President of Sengsavanh College and Mr Levanly President of Hung Vuong University attended this ceremony.
According to this agreement, the Bilateral Cooperative Development Project, which would commence to operate from early 2010, the two institutes would jointly manage the teaching of courses in Sengsavanh College leading to the master’s degrees in various fields, such as economics, tourism and education and it would also include a student exchange programme.
Mr Khamsen Sisavong, President of Sengsavanh College, said that this was the first cooperative project between his college and a university in Vietnam – University of Vietnam. Sengsavanh College had recently signed a cooperative agreement with a university in Thailand.
This was really a form of joint education programme, with the aim of raising the quality and standard of education in Laos and at the same time to enable Laotians to study in Laos those courses that had been developed overseas, said Mr Khamsen.
