(KPL) Foreign businessmen have shown interests in investment opportunities in Savannaket province following the inauguration of the second Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge between Savannakhet and Mukdahan in December
2007.

“There are 88 projects being developed by foreign businessmen in the province with a total investment of over US dollars one billion,” said last week Ms. Khampinh Phengmanivong, Deputy Head of the Planning and Investment Service of Savannakhet.
Among them include six per cent of investment in industrial sector, 34.8 per cent in energy and mining, 52.5 per cent in agriculture and 6.5 per cent in service sector.
These projects are investment by businesses from 16 countries, including 25 by Chinese investors, 23 by Thai investors and 14 by Vietnamese companies.
The province attracted 14 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total investment of 85.75 million US dollars in 2007, twenty projects, worth 115 million US dollars, in 2008, and 19 projects worth 53.49 million US dollars until this month, according to Ms. Khampin.
In addition, until now the province has received financial assistance, amounting t US dollars 11.5 million, for its rural development projects from 125 foreign companies and 25 international organisations.
