Law on People’s Court put forth to NA 8th session
Mr. Khammy Sayavong, President of the Lao People’s Supreme Court, presented a revised version of the law on people’s court to the 8th ordinary session of the National Assembly’s Sixth Legislature last Thursday.

The version drew much attention and hot debate among lawmakers.
The meeting was chaired by the National Assembly President Thongsing Thammavong.
The debate centred on article 5 on basic procedures on the prosecution of the court, article 9 on the equal rights of a citizen to receive the fair and equal treatment of law and the court, article 13 on the determination of language in the prosecution, and article 46 on the determination of the qualification of the judge.
“The law was approved by the National Assembly in 2003. However the new revised version still has weak points especially the principle on the decision of the judge and the promotion and facilitation of the government for the practice of the judge,” said Dr. Lienthikeo Khaykhamphithoune, a member of National Assembly of the Constituency One.
“The principles on these should be further elaborated,” added Dr. Lienthikeo.
