(KPL) Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister, received here on 23 November a courtesy visit of UN representative, Mrs Asama Jahunkri, who was tasked by the UN to report on religious freedom in Laos.

The Standing Deputy Prime Minister informed the UN representative that religious freedom was part and parcel of the Party-State policy and it was written in the constitution.
Mrs Asama Jahunkri, a Pakistani, was appointed by the Human Rights Council of UN to gatherdata and information on religious freedom in various countries and to report her findings back to the UN.
Laos invited the UN to carry out such an exercise and it had reciprocated by sending a team to carry out such a task.
This UN special reporting delegation had a working schedule mapped out and they would be in this country from 23 to 30 November.
During their stay in Laos they would meet an assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to hear his elaboration on religious freedom in the country and with reference to various ethnic groups.
