Cambodia, Lao Premiers hold talks on border demarcation, bilateral ties0 comments

(KPL) Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and visiting Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh on Wednesday held talks on the border demarcation for the two neighbouring countries and bilateral ties, reported the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

“We have signed the agreement of border demarcation and we determined that the temporary boundary markers that the border committees of both sides already planted will become the real demarcation markers,” Hor Namhong, Cambodia foreign minister told reporters after over two-hour talks between the two leaders at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Phnom Penh.

“We remained about 12 percent of planting border demarcation between the two countries and we are boosting forend it soon,” he said.

Cambodia and Laos will exchange more students under a scholarship programme, and Lao Prime Minister also invited Hun Sen to attend the opening ceremony for the upcoming 25th SEA Games (South East Asian Games) in Laos, Hor said, adding that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen would attend the ceremony, set to officially start on Dec. 9.

Moreover, both sides are also expanding economic cooperation, and will hold a meeting on multi-cooperation between the two countries in the future, Hor added.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Prime Minister Bouasone pays the two-day official visit to Cambodia and he will be received in Royal Audience by King Norodom Sihamoni and will also pay courtesy calls on Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim and National Assembly President Heng Samrin.

The visit is aimed at further strengthening the friendly relations and co-operation between the two neighbouring countries of Laos and Vietnam.
