Men urged to participate in preventing violence against women
(KPL) The Lao National Committee for Women’s Advancement in cooperation with the Lao Women’s Union and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held a seminar on increasing the participation of men in the prevention of violence against women.

The seminar took place in Vientiane Capital on November 23 under the presidency of Ms. Sisay Luedethmounsone, President of the Lao Women’s Union. It was attended by members of the Lao National Committee for Women’s Advancement, members of the National Assembly, and representatives of international organisations and relevant authorities.
“The governments, international organisations and non-government organisations have made efforts in the prevention of violence against women and many countries have developed laws and legal documents on this kind of prevention,” said Ms. Sisay.
“Many countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia impose laws on prevention of rape and human trafficking and these regulations are also included in criminal law of these countries,” said Ms. Sisay.
“In the Lao PDR, the government has paid attention to the prevention of violence against women by applying proper legal measures including the amendment to the national constitution and laws and developing policies to protect the rights and interests of women and children,” added Ms. Sisay.
