466 people receive eye operation in four northern provinces

(KPL) In 2008-2009 period, an Australian foundation Fred Rolo conducted free-of-charge eye operation for ethnic people suffering from eye related diseases in Phongsaly, Luang Namtha, Borkeo and Oudomxay.

The foundation and the relevant sectors conducted eye operation for 466 out of 610 target people. Of this number, 117 patients are in Phongsaly, 102 in Luang Namtha, 106 in Oudomxay, and 141 in Borkeo.

According to the foundation, there are 1,250 people suffering from eye-related diseases in 25 villages of the four provinces and most of the patients are aged over 50.

The Fred RoLo foundation also established a fund for promoting eye treatment for people in the four northern provinces. Present at the seminar also included Head of the Oudomxay Public Health Service, Dr. Khamphan Sayyavong, and relevant officials from the mentioned provinces.

The foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health held a seminar on eye treatment for health officials from the four provinces in Oudomxay province last week.
