The province says these companies employ as many as 6,000 workers to work on the projects.

“This year, the province sees a significant increase in agricultural production, mostly in the plantation of rubber trees, cashew nuts, and oil palm trees,” said Mr. Khampeng Piengvolavong, Head of the Champassak Labour and Social Welfare Service.

Mr. Khampeng said that over 23,000 ha of land in the province had been put under rubber trees.

Champassak has asked the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare to provide fund for constructing a vocational training and labour skill development centre in the province and develop more binding legal documents on managing local and foreign workers.

Mr. Khampeng also said that the issue of sending local workers to work abroad should be closely monitored and received much attention to ensure enough workforce for investment projects.
