Party and State leaders bid a final farewell to Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane, who passed away on July 17 at the age of 45
The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Secretary General and Lao PDR President Choummaly Sayasone led Party and state leaders to attend the official cremation ceremony of Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane at Vat Thatfoun temple in Vientiane.
A large number of people including foreign diplomats and business people and members of the public also attended the cremation ceremony. Major General Sannhahak died at 12:00 on July 17 after receiving intensive medical treatment from both local and foreign doctors.
Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane was born on June 16, 1968 at Nakai village, Viengxay district, Huaphan province. He was the son of late President Kaysone Phomvihane and Mrs Thongvin Phomvihane. Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane married Ms Oravanh Phomvihane and the couple had four children, currently residing at Phonphanao village, Xaysettha district, Vientiane.
Major General Sannhahak joined the revolution on November 25, 1988 and was accepted as a full Party member on May 29, 1989. He studied secondary school and then attended a military academy in the former Soviet Union from 1980 to 1988. From 1998 to 1999 he studied for a master’s degree with the military in India.
In March 2006, the 8th Party Congress elected him to the Party Central Committee. In March, 2011, he was re-elected to the Party Central Committee.
From June 2006 to the present, he has been the Deputy Minister of National Defence. In January 2012, he was sent to study for a master’s degree in economic administration at the National Political and Administration Academy.
The Party Central Committee, National Assembly, Government and Lao Front for National Construction, Ministry of National Defence and Phomvihane family made the official announcement on the death of the high-ranking Party and state official on Thursday the 18th of July. Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane, a Party Central Committee member and Deputy Minister of National Defence passed away on July 17 at the age of 45.
From afternoon of Thursday the 18th of July at the meeting hall of the Ministry of National Defence. Leaders ‘families and public organizations lined up to pay their respects and sincerely express their deep condolences to the passing away of Major General Sannhahak Phomvihane, a Party Central Committee member and Deputy Minister of National Defence passed away on July 17 at the age of 45.
Local and foreign newspapers including Chinese News Agency, Xinhua and Thai Newspaper the Bangkok Post also reported the death of the young general.
