On October 16, 2008 I made a visit to Phonsikhay Elementary School after hanging out with the students at Houaylao Elementary School. I got there just in time for their acvitity period before the students go home for lunch.
A few photos from That Luang Festival 2008 on November 11, the day of the Pasad Pheung Procession. These days it is a rare occasion to see Lao females and males dressed in full traditional clothing.
After reading activity it was morning break for the students at Houaylao Elementary School. Some of the students were so shy to be near my camera. But those little girls from the kindergarten class were not afraid to strike a pose for me.
Additional photos of Reading Activity Time at Houaylao Elementary School. The superintendent told me the books are being used by both the students and the villagers. Additional photos of Wat Keopa in Vientiane. I didn’t have much time to spend at the temple because aunt Kian was getting ready to catch a bus to Pakse. This temple is where the majority of the funeral in the area would take place.
I went to Wat Keopa yesterday morning to check out the two sala trees that we have known about from aunt Kian. Here are the first set of photos for you to see. The left tree didn’t have much leaves unlike the second one.
The day I visited Houaylao Elementary School, the students and teachers were getting ready for the Teacher’s Day celebration. Here are the photos of the third, fourth, and fifth graders giving flowers and presents to their teachers.
On October 10, 2008 I visited Houaylao Elementary School in Pakse for the first time. This school is home to one of our book boxes. I first went to meet the administrator of the school. The teachers and the students were busy preparing for Teacher’s Days celebration. Many in Vientiane already celebrated this special day [...]
Students Dannavieng Elementary finished their first year year at the newly built school earlier this month. The incomplete school was being used to its full extent. Even with dirt floor, the students were happy to be inside holding classes. They spent many months under the shade while the construction was going on last year. The [...]
NongDong Elementary School is located in Muang Phone Thong, Khang Champassak, not too far from the Lao/Thai border. The name is special to us because we (members and visitors) to the site (formerly Laoplanet) donated a book box library to the school in March of last year (see photos in the Gallery). We now have [...]
We have an update on our book box fund project for you. A happy news before the end of the year. Our 9th book box, full of fun and interesting reading materials has been delivered to Houay Laou Elementary school in Pakse, Champassak province. Thanks to the generous support of Nye Noona ($100) and the [...]
Before the year 2000, the only way to cross from Pakse to Phonthong district in Champassak province was to catch a buk or ferry. Now there is a grand Lao-Nippon Bridge, known to the local as Pakse bridge stretching over the mighty Mekong River to connect the southern region of Laos and the neighboring countries. [...]
