I didn’t forget for bring back the Lao Cook Hat with me. I even took the hat out with me the first night of my arrvial in the Netherlands. Now I am used to the curious looks from people around me. Some even took my picture with the LC Hat with me. What did I do? I just smiled and wore my LC Hat proudly. Go A Team! I believe in you.
First night back in NL on 08, October 2006. Behind me is the Town Hall of Rotterdam. That funny smile I gave to a Dutch guy (complete stranger walking by) who took out his camera and took some pics of me. Now he knows what Laocook.com is.
Friday night 13, October 2006. Even when I go out on a date, I took my LC Hat with me, LOL. In the background is the Beurs World Trade Center.

In The Wizard of Oz (1939), Dorothy Gale, is a sad and lonely Kansas farm girl who loves her dog Toto dearly.
She has a hateful neighbor that often tormented her dog. Dorothy dreams of a better place “somewhere over the rainbow”, where Toto will be free from torment. She plans to run away.
During a fierce tornado, Dorothy was struck in the head and transported to a land “beyond the rainbow”. There she meets magical characters and embarks on a quest to see the Wizard who can help her return to Kansas.
Dorothy and Toto travels down the “yellow brick road” to the Land of Oz with her new friends.
For those that have not seen this great classic, I’m not going to tell you the ending and you’ll have to see the movie for yourself.
The Lao Cook Hat also has a home in Kansas.
The brave cows came to check out the Lao Cook Hat. They ran away when they thought I was going to turn them into larb. LOL. When some of them realized I was not going to kill them, they started to head toward me again.
The Journey of the Lao Cook Hat continues at The Country Club Plaza, known as Kansas City’s premier entertainment district. Kansas City is also the city of fountains and has “more fountains than any city in the world except Rome”.

The Lao Cook Hat Saga continues in Volendam, a fishing village near Amsterdam. The following pictures were taken on August 17, 2006.
Where is the Lao Cook Hat? You’ll soon find out.
As a souvenir of my visit to the A-Team, I asked for an autographed Lao Cook Hat. While I was getting ready to take a picture of the hat to show my family on Wednesday afternoon, an idea came to me.
I thought how cool it would be to carry the Lao Cook Hat with me to certain places and take some pictures of me wearing it. It will definitely look silly and will draw some frowns but it will raise curiosity when people see www.laocook.com written on the hat.
The Journey of the Lao Cook Hat begins in Rotterdam, at Beursplein Shopping Center.

I recently spent a week with the A-Team in Andalucia, Spain. They work at Fairplay Golf Hotel & Spa (5 Stars luxury suite hotel).
Each day the A-Team prepares “high-level” Asiatic cuisine with great emphasis on New Sytle Lao (Laotian) Cuisine. The ultimate goal is to bring attention to the great culinary of Laos, one dish at a time.
Below is the picture of the Asiatic Restaurant where the members of the A-Team do what they do best, creating delicious and beautiful dishes.
Even the design of the restaurant is influenced by Lao culture with the two elephants position at the entrance.
Chef Vienne and I were treated to an exquisite “Tasting Menu” on the first night of my arrival. The next afternoon I attended the A-Team Fiesta and was treated to good old Lao food, from larb sien, tum maak houng, to ping gai.
The A-Team surprised me at the end of the week by inducting me as one of their own.
I will never forget their loving hospitality and their warm smiles. They made me fully understand the meaning of Nam Jai (water of the heart) of Khon Lao. Kop Chai Lai Lai Der the A-Team.
As an avid fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation I have to admit Chef Vienne (Iron Chef Lao) resembles Captain Picard of the USS Enterprise.
No, it has nothing to do with the fact that Chef Vienne is sporting a new hair style that is similar to Captain Picard’s shaved head.
With a group of brave men and yes women too, The Lao Cook Team is taking Lao Cuisine to a whole new frontier and “to boldly go” where no Lao Chefs or Lao Cooks have gone before.
The Lao Cook Team is creating a New Style Lao Recipes. What’s that? A lot of us don’t have a clue as to what New Style Lao Cuisine is. Don’t worry, we will find it out soon enough.
New Style means a new interpretation of a dish. Laotian cuisine is very adaptable to its environment. Many Lao living away from home have added new ingredients to old Laotian favourites, perhaps due to the lack of traditional ingredients or certain herbs and spices, or perhaps due to Adventurism, of not being confined by rules and structures, or to simply say, “To boldly go”
New Style Larb Beef
Aw Lam (Lao Stew)
Pon Pla
Kanom Chun or Layered Desert
I believe there is more to Lao (Laotian) Cuisine than padeak (fermented fish sauce) and tum maak houng (papaya salad).
I’m very excited about the future of Lao Cuisine. The Lao Cook Team is not bound by any set of rules. They are returning to their roots, taking their favourite dish and go with it.
Lao Cook’s Recipes are a reflection of the diversity and ingenuity of the Lao Cook Team. The imaginative dishes speak for themselves.
I’m proud to say New Style Lao Cuisine is truly a fusion of East and West with elegance and subtlety.
