Vietnam Television (VTV) will continue to assist Lao National Television (LNTV) in HRD

Introduction:Vietnam Television or VTV will continue to assist Lao National Television calls LNTV with training for personnel in programme production and various technical skills.

Story:LNTV Director General Bounchao Phichit and VTV’s training school Director Dr Tran Bao Khanh signed an agreement on educational opportunities for Lao staff.

Under the agreement, the Vietnamese side will provide 10 scholarships each year for LNTV staff to attend the VTV training school over the next three years, starting this year. Courses will be given in journalism, camera operation, TV and movie technology, electronics, communications, and computer studies. VTV first provided assistance to LNTV with this progamme in 2012, when about 30 LNTV staff attended courses in Vietnam.

At the signing ceremony, LNTV Director General Bounchao Phichit thanked the Vietnamese side and said he highly valued their assistance, both in the past and in the future, saying the quality of personnel dictated the success of every project. He said, LNTV needs personnel with expertise, so they can become national broadcasters. Adding that, VTV has also given equipment to LNTV, worth about US$100,000 (800 million kip), including cameras and spare parts.

Dr Khanh informed those present about the progress of the Lao trainees in Vietnam, saying some of them had proved to be outstanding in their practical work. He also spoke about the challenges the students faced, citing a lack of knowledge of Vietnamese, which is the medium of instruction. He suggested that students attending courses have sufficient language skills to benefit from the training.

Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Savankhone Razmountry, and Charge d’Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy to Laos, Hoang Xuan Hai, witnessed the signing of the agreement.
