Cabinet, governors discuss Asean integration, economic development
Introduction: Preparations for the Asean integration and socio-economic development plan have been the topic of priority at the ongoing three-day meeting between the government cabinet, Vientiane mayor and provincial governors.
Story:The meeting, was chaired by Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong. Discussions on the progress Laos has made in preparation for Asean integration was seen at the meeting, as the 10-member regional bloc is set to realise the three pillars of the Asean Community by the end of 2015.
The three pillars are Asean Political-Security Community, Asean Economic Community and Asean Socio-Cultural Community.
A Prime Ministerial decree on the implementation of the 2014-15 socio-economic development plan was also presented, according to the government website.
The meeting discussed and prioritised state investment projects, while the budget and currency plan for the 2014-15 fiscal year were also tabled.
The meeting also heard a report on the implementation of a prime ministerial order which imposes suspension on consideration and approval of new mining projects, as well as rubber and eucalyptus plantation projects.
The meeting then went on to conclude the implementation of the 2013-2014 socio-economic development plan.
The participants heard a report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, budget plan and currency plan for 2013-2014 fiscal year, as well as the progress made in carrying out commercial-based production and food security promotion projects.
Additionally, the amendment to the Prime Ministerial decree on economical spending practices against a lavish lifestyle was also discussed.
The meeting also heard progress made in strengthening coordinated action among various sectors. The participants have also reviewed the performance of the government cabinet over the past year and discussed activities for the next year.
