Korean professional dance coaches assist the development of local students as part of the ‘Dream Project’
Introduction: Korean professional dance coaches have been conducting intensive classes to assist the development of local students as part of the ‘Dream Project’ that is running at Lao Plaza hotel, Vientiane from September 13 – 27.
Story: The Korean Ambassador to Laos, Kim Soo Gwon held a press conference yesterday to emphasise the significance of the dance project for cultural exchange between the two nations.
The Ambassador noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in cooperation with Korean National University of Arts (KNUA) has been undertaking the Dream Project since last year, which aims to educate and train promising young artists in developing countries by dispatching volunteer teams consisting of highly skilled and qualified arts professionals.
The ROK government decided to expand the scope of the project this year and collaborate with the Lao government in the spirit of celebrating the ROK- Mekong exchange programme and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the ROK-Asean Dialogue Partnership.
Prominent professional dancers from the KNUA led by Professor Jeon Mi-sook have been in the country conducting the workshops with aspiring young dancers from the Lao National School of Arts, National Arts Ensemble and the Children’s Cultural Centre in Vientiane.
The dance workshops have introduced contemporary dance to local students who have been mainly trained in Lao traditional dance but are not so familiar with the more modern styles.
Vice President of the Lao Journalist’s Association Somsanouk Mixay also attended the press conference to promote cultural exchange and dance between the two nations.
The Korean dance coaches also expressed their happiness at having the chance to teach eager Lao students and promote the development of contemporary dance and pass on the right skills and movements.
