The programme for Francophonie Month celebration announces

Introduction: The Embassy of France to Laos and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a joint press conference to announce the programme for Francophonie Month, a global event celebrated annually by the International Organisation of the Francophonie.

Story: Speaking at the press conference, Director General of the ministry’s Europe and America Department, Khouanta Phalivong, said “This month is traditionally dedicated to Francophonie celebrations, so each of the 77 member states and governments of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) and Laos will hold events to celebrate the International Day of Francophonie with other francophone countries around the world, of which Laos is one.”

French Ambassador to Laos Yves Carmona said “Among the special Francophonie celebrations this year is a competition in the French language and general culture for Lao students.”

The Francophone Festival will take place at the Sokpaluang campus of the National University of Laos. The festival aims to gather a wide audience of French and Lao speakers, including Lao nationals and French and non-French speaking expatriates during a day dedicated to promoting the plurality of the French-speaking community in Laos.

Many of the activities offered by francophone institutions in Vientiane began earlier on and will reach their conclusion on March 21, during a large francophone afternoon at the French Institute.

Since the accession of Laos to the OIF in 1991, dozens of events have been organised every year in Vientiane as well as in the provinces to celebrate the values of Francophonie.
