Introduction: The annual meeting of the infrastructure sector working group was held on Monday in Vientiane, where the implementation of the annual plan for fiscal year 2013/14 was assessed and scrutinised. According to Minister of Public Works and Transport Dr Bounchanh Sinthavong Efficiency must be a priority in the transport sector.

Story: Minister of Public Works and Transport Dr Bounchanh Sinthavong stated that the expansion, improvement and maintenance of the road network in Laos is essential to boosting transport links and boosting socio-economic growth but funding is limited so it is imperative that all project funding is utilised efficiently.
Meanwhile Deputy Country Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Barend Frielink noted that the ADB, together with other key development partners, has provided significant financial resources, technical assistance and knowledge on transport upgrades for the national road network, for provincial and district roads, for water supply systems, for urban development and for airport upgrading.
JICA will support the second phase of the Capacity Building Project for Road Maintenance in Laos to proceed in the two provinces of Savannakhet and Vientiane over the course of the next three years.
The meeting was also attended by the Japanese Ambassador, along with representatives from the Asian Development Bank and World Bank.
