Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Thongloun Sisoulith and Belarusian Minister of the Economy Mr Nikolai Snopkov expressed their pleasure with the cooperation between Laos and Belarus, which is being continually strengthened.

The two ministers made the comments during their meeting held yesterday in Vientiane, which is part of a visit by a Belarusian delegation led by the minister.

“The two sides have enjoyed strong relations and cooperation which has led to the positive and gradual expansion of ties, and this visit affirms the desire of Belarus to engage in fruitful cooperation,” the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During their discussions, the two ministers paid special attention to the details of President Choummaly Sayasone’s upcoming visit to Belarus, scheduled from July 1 to 3. The visit of the Belarusian delegation is being held after Dr Thongloun Sisoulith, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Republic of Belarus earlier this month where he met with his Belarusian counterpart, Mr Vladimir Makei, and paid courtesy visits to Belarus’ President, Mr Alexander Lukashenko, and Prime Minister, Mr Mikhail Myasnikovich.

During that visit, the two sides underlined their wish to push forward and expand cooperation in agriculture, education, investment, tourism, culture, the machinery industry and foreign affairs.

On the same day, Mr Snopkov also called on the Minister to the President’s Office, Mr Phongsavath Boupha. Both Laos and Belarus highlighted their traditionally good relations and cooperation during the meeting.

The visit of the Belarusian delegation to Vientiane will continue tomorrow, when a meeting between business representatives from Laos and Belarus, led by Secretary General of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Khanthavong Dalavong, and Head of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Department of International Cooperation, Mr Aliaksandr Halavarou, will take place.

Lao representatives from the construction industry, mining companies, pharmacies, and agribusinesses will introduce their guests to the function and structure of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the national business environment and facilities in Laos.

Belarusian businessmen have already begun to improve their production and supply of heavy machines and equipment for the mining industry and agro-product processing.

The two national chambers also discussed a memorandum of understanding on future cooperation which will be signed during the visit of President Choummaly Saysone to Belarus, which 20 Lao businessmen will also join.
