Introduction: The 13th Lao Handicraft Festival 2014 featuring a variety of domestic products at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane, was officially launched on Monday the 13 and will end on October 19. The handicraft festival is offered different interesting activities, including the product contest, product demonstrations, seminars, fashion show and exhibitions.

Story: Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong witnessed the opening ceremony along with the Minister of Industry and Commerce Madam Khemmani Pholsena, President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sisavath Thiravong, foreign diplomats and other senior government officials.

According to LNCCI President Sisavath Thiravong this was a great opportunity to promote the works of Lao handicraft makers from around the country to domestic and foreign guests. He said.

During the preparation time for Asean Economic Community integration next year, he is confident that the Lao Handicraft Association will be able to lead our craftsmen and artisans so that they can enter into regional competitions in the years to come.

According to the Lao Handicraft Association in a recent report, Lao craftsmen have a limited amount of handicraft skills and they need to learn a lot more about local and international standards of handicraft production. It means they are in need of support from the government’s relevant organisations.

The event aims to attract craftsmen and artisans from across the country to display and sell their handicrafts and produce. The 13th Lao Handicraft Festival 2014 will have 500 booths showcasing domestic products of many different types, such as textiles, silver jewellery, intricate designs and craftsmanship and a lot more.
