(KPL) Major tourist destination, Luang Prabang, is soon to launch a campaign certifying the safety and “greenness” of tourism businesses.
The campaign will see the creation of a new label to be displayed at hotels and restaurants around the world heritage city, setting a recognizable standard for the benefit of tourists.
The Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce and United Nations Cluster Project together with other sectors including the Luang Prabang Department of Culture, Information and Tourism and the Association of Hotels, Guesthouses and Restaurants met in Luang Prabang to decide upon a unique symbol that would represent tourism in Luang Prabang.
“This label will become well-known among customers and tourists for regulation and compliance with the future sustainable tourism of the province,”said Luang Prabang Vice Governor Bouakhong Nammavong.
I n recent years, Laos has welcomed an influx of tourists, with last year’s figures representing 3.3 million, the result of rapid growth in the Lao tourism sector. Luang Prabang is among the many tourist destinations across the nation blessed with unique cultural, archeological and natural tourist attractions.
Ensuring the safety of domestic and foreign visitors is an important factor conducive to the sustainability of tourism and minimization of environmental impact.
The new system for safety and greener tourism to be implemented in Luang Prabang is being developed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization under the multi-faceted cooperation of the United Nations Cluster Project, financed by The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of Switzerland and the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality.
