The Premiere calls on Nagyang residents in Vientiane’s Naxaithong district to maintain heroism
Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong has called on Nagyang residents in Vientiane’s Naxaithong district to continue their heroism to strengthen overall national defence and socio-economic development.
Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong made the call recently when meeting with the village authorities and greater community with the aim of giving them guidance on development. Some Nagyang village residents are first generation descendants of Lao revolutionary leaders who escaped from prison in Vientiane 1960.
Prime Minister Thongsing said despite the Nagyang’s outstanding achievements, it has yet to drive ahead and mix old traditions with new, which would see the protection of traditional ways of life but adopt modern ways of living. This would mean a very different lifestyle from the one lived in the period of national liberation.
He advised the community to move away from dependence on old customs and take on a modern lifestyle, which would help development. He also called on the grassroots Party unit to enhance its capacity and that of the other village organisations such as the united front, youth, and women’s groups.
The village, which was previously called Natay village, was established in 1889 by people who moved from Nam Mo in Mork district, Xieng Khuang province in 1872 with an initial 29 residents. It is situated next to Huayxone-Huayxua Agriculture Development and Service Project.
It is one of eight villages of Namkieng village group in the district. The group has 1,824 residents with 90 percent of them farmers. From the outstanding contribution of the residents and their families in the fight for national liberation, the village gained heroic status 1979, and was announced as a new cultural model village in 2011. It also has the status of development village.
