The preparation of documents for the 220-km high-speed Savannakhet-Lao Bao railway completes

INTRO: The preparation of documents for the 220-km high-speed Savannakhet-Lao Bao railway has been completed, while the project concessionaires are waiting for the Lao government’s approval.

STORY: The thousands of pages of construction and contract documents including extensive bills of quantities (BoQs) for the dual track standard gauge electrified railway project costing US$5 billion were handed over by OSI Interwerks Sdn Berhad to the concessionaire company.

The investor originally announced the project would begin in early 2013 with completion expected within the next four years, but the project has been delayed.

The Savannakhet to Lao Bao railway will be the backbone of the country’s railway logistics. This is construed as finally contributing to the realisation of Party and government vision of linking the East West Economic Corridor, involving the rail route from Myanmar-Thailand-Laos, and ending with the construction of My Thuy deep sea port at Dong Ha in Quang Tri province, Vietnam.
