Seven filmmakers who screened award winning short films at the Vientianale Film Festival will join forces to produce 12 short films promoting gender equality under the theme “Women’s role for leaders”.

The production of the 12 films will be supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in collaboration with the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, aiming to encourage the young producers to exchange lessons and share creative ideas.

They hope to be able to produce some quality short films that raise awareness of women’s rights, gender equality and their role as leaders in the community.

The seven filmmakers will undergo three days of training at the Cinema Department to learn how to produce professional short films before setting off to realise their dreams as filmmakers.

The theme “Women’s role for leaders” could prove to be a challenging topic for the young producers, who will have to help each other create films that engage their audience. However, their films will play an important role in helping others to understand the importance of women, their problems and the challenges they face, as well as their potential to lead and propel the country’s development.

All of the films produced will be screened throughout the provinces to raise awareness about the issues concerned.
