An innovative new television series entitled Ban Khong Khoi locally known as My Village announced in Luang Prabang province is expected to prove popular among children from throughout Laos.

At a launch ceremony held in Luang Prabang, Director of the Mass Media Department at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Pinprathana Phanthamaly, said “The aim of the initiative is to provide young children aged three to six with a foundation of development skills. He said adding that, My Village is an excellent model.

The programme encourages reading among children under the age of six. It helps develop their abilities, social skills and creativity. He also urged parents to follow the programme and the relevant sectors to advise teachers, and children to watch it, saying everyone can contribute their ideas and advice on how to improve it.

UNICEF Deputy Director of Advertisement and Communication, Tabongphet Phoutavong, said UNICEF is proud to be a part of the production of the programme. He said, UNICEF sees the importance of early childhood development, considering it as a core investment for human resources and socio-economic development.

The programme will premiere on Lao television screens as part of an effort to boost early childhood development nationwide, set to air for the first time this Sunday. The holistic, interactive and inclusive television series has been created for young children and features claymation, storytelling, educational songs and music videos. The series aims to give children a chance to provide input into and take part in the programme’s production process.

Each 15 minute episode of the series explores a particular topic, aiming to prepare young children for school and life by addressing their cognitive, social and emotional development.
The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism worked in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports and UNICEF Laos to produce the series. My Village will air every Sunday from September 15 on Lao National Television at 6.45am and Lao Star Television at 7.45am.
